FAQ

  • Who can use Mobi?

    Mobi is for people who have been prescribed supplemental oxygen. Lightweight and with a long-lasting battery, it can help oxygen patients maintain an active life.

  • Is Mobi easy to use?

    Mobi is designed for one-touch startup and easy setting changes. The LCD display screen provides clear notifications about device functioning and oxygen delivery. One glance is all it takes to confirm Mobi is delivering the chosen dose of oxygen.

  • How does Mobi provide oxygen?

    Mobi filters air to concentrate oxygen, which is then delivered in individual doses each time you inhale. This is called pulse-dose oxygen delivery.

  • How does PULSE-WAVE technology work?

    Pulse-Wave helps match the oxygen delivery to a patient’s inhalation rate for comfort and synchrony. This helps prevent oxygen being provided at a faster rate than a patient can inhale, which can occur with typical pulse dose delivery devices.

  • What does the Auto Dose function do?

    Normally, Mobi uses your patient’s inhalation as the trigger for oxygen dosing. If breathing cannot be detected, Mobi commences automatic dosing, helping ensure no doses are missed.

  • How much does Mobi weigh?

    Mobi weighs less than 5.5 lbs and is designed to be carried by your patient. It comes with two bag options: the carry bag comes standard with Mobi, while the Mobi backpack can be purchased separately.

  • How long does the Mobi battery last?

    Mobi has a combined battery life of 9 hours (6 hours internal battery and 3 hours per external battery) on setting 2. Full battery specifications and charge times are listed in the Mobi user guide.

  • What maintenance is needed?

    It is recommended that Mobi be serviced with preventative maintenance once a year by qualified technical personnel. It should also be serviced between different patient use. Between services, home maintenance is minimal. Patients can be instructed to check vents regularly and ensure they are clean and free of lint and other debris. For full specific maintenance requirements, refer to the Mobi user guide.

  • Can Mobi be used on aircraft?

    Yes, Mobi is approved for use on commercial flights. For more information on air travel with Mobi, visit our ‘Traveling with oxygen’ page. 

  • What nasal cannula is used with Mobi?

    Mobi is used with a standard, single-lumen nasal cannula. We recommend a maximum length of 7 ft or 2 m.

  • Why does Mobi need to be kept in its carry bag or backpack?

    Mobi is designed to be stored and used in a Mobi carry bag or backpack. These protect Mobi from dirt, weather and spills, and helps keep dust away from the inlet vents.

  • What power supply does Mobi use?

    Mobi can be charged and powered using a standard AC power outlet. It’s compatible with both US and international AC power supplies up to 240V. Mobi also comes with a 12V DC adaptor that can be used in cars and boats.

Before first use

 

  1. Fully charge the internal battery by connecting the AC adaptor to Mobi and a power outlet. (May take up to 4 hours) 
  2. Check the display screen to ensure Mobi is charging. A power plug symbol with the words “Charging internal” and a battery bar symbol with the letters “INT” indicate the internal battery is charging. 
  3. When fully charged, you can set up your prescribed setting. 
  4. Press and hold the power button to turn Mobi on. 
  5. Use the plus (+) and minus (–) buttons to select your setting. 
  6. Press and hold the power button to turn Mobi off.

Using your nasal cannula

 

Managing your cannula

  1. To conceal the cannula inside the carry bag strap, unzip the strap zipper. 
  2. Thread the adaptor end of the cannula through the top end of the zipper. 
  3. Adjust the remaining length of the cannula to a suitable position. 
  4. Hold the cannula adaptor securely and zip up the strap. 
  5. Attach the strap to the carry bag (with the zip side up and facing outwards).

 

Attaching the cannula

  1. Position the oxygen port so it is upright. 
  2. Attach the cannula adaptor to the oxygen port by rotating and pressing it down onto the fitting. 
  3. Return the oxygen port to a horizontal position. 
  4. Check that the cannula adaptor is secure by pulling on it lightly.

 

Removing the cannula

  1. Position the oxygen port and cannula adaptor so they are upright. 
  2. Pinch the cannula adaptor as close to the oxygen port as possible. 
  3. Remove the cannula adaptor by rotating and pulling straight up. Return the oxygen port back to its horizontal position.

Starting therapy

 

  1. Open the carry bag and attach the strap (with the zip side up and facing outwards). 
  2. Turn the oxygen port into an upright position and attach the nasal cannula. 
  3. Return the oxygen port to a horizontal position and check to ensure the cannula is secure.  
  4. Press and hold the power button to turn Mobi on. 
  5. Check the display screen to ensure Mobi is set to your prescribed setting. 
  6. Put the nasal cannula on, with the prongs in your nostrils and tubing around your ears. 
  7. Adjust your cannula to a secure, comfortable length and start to breathe normally.
  8. Check the display screen to ensure therapy has started. A blinking wave symbol indicates breath is detected and oxygen is dosed. 
  9. It is recommended you wait 5 minutes to ensure therapy is working correctly before closing the bag.

Using the external battery

 

  1. Place the external battery into the side pocket of the carry bag. 
  2. Connect the external battery to the external battery port on Mobi by threading the adaptor (flat side up) through the small opening in the bag. 
  3. Close up the side pocket. 
  4. Open the main compartment and connect Mobi to an AC or DC power supply. 
  5. Check  the display screen to ensure Mobi is charging. A power plug symbol with the words “Charging external” and a battery bar symbol with the letters “EXT” indicate the external battery is charging.

Cleaning the fan vents

 

  1. Open the main compartment and check that Mobi is off. 
  2. Unzip the side zip to release Mobi from its compartment. 
  3. Lift Mobi out of the carry bag and set aside. 
  4. Inspect the bag to ensure there is no build-up of lint or dust that could obstruct the flow of air through the mesh vents. 
  5. Clean each of the bag’s mesh vent panels, inside and out, with a dry cloth. 
  6. Once the bag is clean, inspect Mobi and ensure its fan vents are not obstructed by any lint or dust. 
  7. Using a dry cotton swap, clean each of the fan vents individually. 
  8. Place Mobi back inside the carry case when finished.

Note: It is recommended the bag mesh panels and Mobi vents be cleaned at least once a month.

Replacing the air filter

 

  1. Open the carry bag and check that Mobi is off. 
  2. Unzip the side zip to release Mobi from its compartment. 
  3. Lift Mobi out of the bag and lay it on a soft surface with the logo facing down. 
  4. Unscrew the filter cover using a torx screwdriver and set aside. 
  5. Remove and discard the old filter. 
  6. Inspect the new filter for any signs of debris or damage before placing it inside Mobi. 
  7. Return the filter cover to its housing and screw it back into place. 
  8. Place Mobi back inside the carry case when finished.

Note: It is recommended the air filter be replaced every 12 months.  

Inspecting the nasal cannula

 

  1. Open the carry bag. 
  2. Unzip the strap zipper to unveil the nasal cannula. 
  3. Inspect the cannula all the way from the oxygen port to the nasal prongs for any kinks and blockages. 
  4. Inspect the prongs closely for any debris or blockages. 
  5. Zip up the strap and close the carry bag when inspection is complete.
