Patient adherence to therapy can be the biggest challenge for treating sleep apnea.
Research indicates that patients and their families are more likely to adapt to and continue therapy if they have:
- proper equipment and training1-4
- adequate number of caregivers1-4
- a support system of experienced healthcare professionals.1-4
At ResMed, we agree that the best way to improve patient compliance is by using a multi-faceted approach, which includes:
Comfortable, easy-to-use and reliable equipment
Effective patient education and consistent follow-up
This is vital to help maintain a patient’s confidence in the therapy they are receiving. AirView™ compliance monitoring allows across the board, real-time access to patient data for all care partners (HMEs, physicians, sleep labs) in one place—an easy and efficient way for all to proactively identify and address therapy adherence issues.
Involvement and support
It’s extremely important that patients feel that they are not isolated or walking this treatment path alone. Encourage your patients to join the Wake Up to Sleep program: a sleep apnea support community designed to help people along their entire journey – from awareness to diagnosis to successful treatment.
Patients can access free resources, read our blog about sleep apnea and connect with others on a similar journey. And the best part is, it’s absolutely FREE!
Equipment replacement and compliance
Timely equipment replacement is critical in helping patients stay compliant and comfortable during therapy.
Take the time to educate your patients on knowing when and how to replace components of their products, and how this relates to comfort and therapy effectiveness.
Let them know that manufacturers recommend regular parts replacement, and remind them of their insurance coverage and eligibility.
