Screening and diagnosis for sleep-disordered breathing
If you suspect that a patient may have sleep-disordered breathing, this three-step screening process for SDB can get him or her on the path to getting diagnosed.
Can you recognize some of the common symptoms of SDB in your patients?
Ask them to complete a simple five-question sleep apnea symptom test as a quick screener.
Recommend that they take a sleep study to determine whether or not SDB, and if it is, to determine how severe it is.
All about sleep studies
During a sleep study, your patient’s breathing is monitored to see if they have a sleep disorder such as sleep apnea. Sleep studies can be done at home or in a sleep clinic.
