Narval CC: Key features

What is sleep apnea?

Narval CC™ is a clinically-proven1 mandibular repositioning device (MRD) that's custom-made for precision, flexibility and results. It’s one of the smallest and lightest MRDs available on the market.

ResMed has used every single innovation at its disposal to optimise the Narval CC device. Its use of a biocompatible2 polymer reduces the chance of allergies and is designed to withstand teeth grinding from patients with bruxism.3

A patented articulation method enables your patients to sleep with their mouths closed– but gives them the flexibility to open it, and even drink if necessary.

Finally, we use a retention method that clips onto only a few, well-anchored teeth instead of wrapping around all of them — a conservative approach to protect your patient’s teeth from excessive movement.

  • A bespoke solution that maximises precision and comfort: ResMed is today one of a few companies to use computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) for MRDs, enabling an almost infinite degree of customisation to suit your patients' complex dental anatomy.
  • Strong, lightweight material: Narval CC is made of polymer, a lightweight and strong material that’s quite unique in dentistry, and that doesn't smell or leak. The use of polymer and laser sintering manufacturing techniques allows ResMed to create Narval CC in one continuous homogeneous layer that’s durable,5 flexible, thin, and hygienic.
  • Biocompatible2: Polymer is not made from acrylic, metals, latex, paraben or bisphenol A. It’s also very hygienic so minimise the risk of allergies.
  • Ease of titration: Narval CC allows for rapid, easy and precise titration thanks to the 0.5 mm increment connecting rods. You always know where you are in the process, and can easily go back or forward as required.
  • Patented articulation: Narval CC uses a traction-based articulation method that maintains the mandible in a protruded position along the occlusal plane, instead of pushing it forward and down like conventional, compression-based MRDs. This mechanism promotes lip seal, and creates 10% less stress on the temporomandibular joint (TMJ).4
  • Flexibility and choice: Narval comes in five different designs, each with a protrusive range of up to 15 mm, with adjustments possible in 0.5 mm increments.
  • High quality: Narval CC enjoys ISO 13485 certification. ResMed also has FDA 510(k) approval for the manufacturing of Narval CC.
  • Manufactured in France and the US: Devices for European and Asian markets are manufactured in Lyon, France, whilst those in the USA and Canada are made near San Diego in California.
