Yes. ResMed's range of S8™ and S9™ products can all use either an inverter or converter. Earlier products, such as the S7™ series, only work with inverters.

ResMed has converters available for its range of S8 and S9 products. The converters allow you to operate your therapy device from a 12V or 24V DC power source in a car, boat or other vehicle equipped with a suitable battery. Refer to ResMed's Compatibility Guide for more detailed information.

A converter 'converts' the voltage from one value to another, where a higher or lower DC voltage is required. ResMed has converters available for S8 and S9 products. The converters allow you to operate your therapy device from a 12V or 24V DC power source in a car, boat or other vehicle equipped with a suitable battery.

An inverter is an electrical device that changes direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC). They should be capable of supplying voltage in the 100-300V range.

If you are using a therapy device without a humidifier or an S9 combined with a H5i™ you will need a modified sine-wave inverter with a minimum power rating of 150W. If you are using a therapy device combined with a H2i™, H3i™, or H4i™ humidifier, you will need a pure-sine inverter with a minimum power rating of 200W.

Your ResMed accredited outlet can help you choose a suitable inverter, or the correct converter, for your therapy device.

Yes. All ResMed therapy devices have a power supply that automatically adjusts to the different power supplies used in various parts of the world. Just ensure that you purchase and travel with the approved power cord and power switch adaptor for the region you are staying in or visiting. All therapy devices will accept 100–240V, 50–60Hz without needing any special adjustment.

Most ResMed therapy devices can be used in-flight and you should check with the airline before you book your flight. Some airlines allow passengers to use a therapy device in-flight and actively assist patients in this regard, while others do not, so you’ll have to check a carrier’s policy on this beforehand. ResMed recommends that you do not use a humidifier when flying, as aircraft turbulence increases the risk of water spillage and damage to the therapy device.

Refer to Air Travel Compliance Letters above for more information.

No. X-ray scanners will not harm your therapy device. However, security may require you to show a medical statement from your healthcare professional verifying that you are carrying medical equipment. Make sure that you keep the relevant verification handy if asked.

Yes. Even though the rating plate on your therapy device specifies 50–60Hz, the switch mode power supply in the therapy device is compatible with the 110V/400Hz power supply found on aircraft. ResMed recommends you book a seat close to a power outlet on the aircraft you’ll be flying on. Note that the number and availability of suitable seats varies based on the type of aircraft and the airline.

Yes. Using a suitable inverter or converter unit, your ResMed therapy device can operate from a battery supply (in a truck or recreational vehicle for example). The inverter should be capable of supplying voltage in the 100–300V range and should usually provide you with sufficient capacity. ResMed makes a DC converter which is available as an accessory.

You can also use battery power. Click ResMed Battery Guide or look up the user guide for your specific therapy device for more information on correctly using a battery for your therapy device.

Yes. If you are having surgery it is very important to tell both the surgeon and the anaesthetist that you are being treated with positive airway pressure therapy, and you should bring your therapy device with you. You should also inform the attending healthcare professional that you have been diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).
