ResMed’s Spontaneous, Timed and Spontaneous–Timed modes use a conventional square pressure waveform delivering two levels of pressure—IPAP for inspiration and EPAP for expiration.
Patient conditions
The VPAP range of bilevel devices enables clinicians to treat various patient types. From OSA patients to those requiring ventilatory assistance for respiratory insufficiency, including obstructive and restrictive lung mechanics.
Choosing the right mode depends on the patient’s condition and whether there is a need for a backup respiratory rate. Because every patient is different, the modes include a Rise Time setting. This allows the physician to adjust how quickly the device transitions from EPAP to IPAP.
Trigger and Cycle Sensitivities allow further customisation to manage patients with altered lung mechanics. These settings combine with TiControl inspiratory time management and the Vsync leak management algorithm to provide better patient–device synchrony and improved patient comfort.
